TAHPERD Membership

Where do I fit?

Professional Members. ($70 for 12 month membership) Professional Members are individuals educated with university or college degrees and/or certified professionals employed in the fields of health education, physical education, recreation, or dance. Individuals who are employed in the fields of health education, physical education, recreation, or dance and/or attending graduate school part time must be professional members.

Associate Members. ($60 for 12 month membership) Associate Members are individuals not qualifying for another form of membership, for example, teacher aides, teachers certified in another teaching area. 

Student Members. ($20 for 12 month membership)Student Members are undergraduate students and full time graduate students, enrolled at colleges and universities preparing for careers in health education, physical education, recreation, dance, or allied fields. Individuals who are employed in the fields of health education, physical education, recreation, or dance and/or attending graduate school part time must be professional/ associate members. 

Retired Members. ($30 for 12 month membership) Retired Members are individuals who have retired from employment and who have been Professional Members of any state association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance for a total of 20 years, which must include 10 consecutive years as a member of TAHPERD. Individuals who qualify for membership as a Retired Member shall be eligible to participate in all activities of TAHPERD, including holding office and voting. Individuals who are employed in the fields of health education, physical education, recreation, or dance and/or attending graduate school part time must be professional members. 

Emeritus Members. Emeritus Members are individuals who have been a Professional Member of any state association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance for a total of 30 cumulative years or 25 consecutive years, either of which must include 10 years as a member of TAHPERD, or any predecessor association, and who have retired from employment in the field of health, physical education, recreation, and dance. Persons who qualify for membership as an Emeritus Member shall be eligible, without dues, to participate in all membership activities of TAHPERD; except that, no such members may hold an elected office in TAHPERD. These members shall also receive the TAHPERD Journal without cost.
